Abstract : In this Dossier de Veille de l’IFÉ, we tried to cross the issue of the construction of history teaching and that of its receipt by students and teachers. If one refers to the construction of history curriculum, its contents, since the nineteenth century, we see that the institutional motivations are political order. The majority of the studies mention the role of public policy instrument of the teaching of history. For that this instrument works, it is necessary that users perceive it as a common knowledge to acquire. However, there is a shift between institutional recommendations, representations of teachers and students, all along compulsory education. The learning of critical thinking, of historical consciousness, highlighted in the curricula, has some difficulty to find its legitimacy face to divergent contents, practices and cultures.
