"Autor frente a auctoritas: la recreación de Júpiter por Alfonso X en la General Estoria I parte"

Abstract : This article goes back over the conclusions proposed by Francisco Rico in his work entitled Alfonso el Sabio y la "General Estoria": tres lecciones (1972), on the relation between Jupiter's figure in the General estoria and Alfonso X's royal image. First, in order to justify the assertions of Professor Rico, I propose the analysis of the chapter De la razón del rey Saturno e de Júpiter e de sos hermanos (Genesis, book VI, General estoria I), that tells the origin of Jupiter's kingdom. Secondly, the analysis of this chapter allows me to express one of the most complex questions dealing with the reception of Latin texts in the General estoria: the identification of the sources and their use by Alfonso X; in this case, they are mythographical sources translated and compiled in the chapters that correspond to the stories of the pagan kings' lineages.
